Well if you have to or more computers home what would be better to do then setup a network ?

A network has many advantages, such as :

1: If you have one printer , both computers can print witht he one you have.
2: if you have one scanner , you can scan a picture and get it on both computers.
3: You can access files on the other computer via the network.Or if you would like you can put the files on a floppy then copy them to the other computer wink .
4: If you would like to play a game with you brother or frined, you can do that too .
5: if one computer connects to the internet via a modem , it will route the connection to the other computer and both are on the net .
6: Send output of a device to the other computer. Such as a PC camera.

How to setup a network?

What you need?

Network Cards - go to an electronic store and buy 2 .. 20-25 $ each
Two network cables - about 10$ each
Hub - around 30$

Plug the network card in the slot on the motherboard. Install the Drivers. The hub is to physically connect the two boxes. The network speed should be about 100Mbps to at least 10 Mbps.

Computer Names.

Before a computer can become a part of the network it has to have its own name and be in the same workgroup as the other computers. In windows XP , right click on My Computer and choose properties, click the Computer Name tab click the change button and create the name and type in the workgroup.

I didn't see in "What you need," a DSL connect, T1, T3+, etc. wink

Do you mind in the next tutorial by you, to add maybe security matters, in networking (i.e., maybe having a field in knowledge about firewalls, etc.) Maybe 1-6 showing you how to do some of these things. Just a few ideas and opinion.

Thankyou very much Memory,

1: In Windows 98/ME, move the mouse pointer over the Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop and click the right mouse button once.
2: Select Properties from the menu. The Network Properties window will pop up, listing information about the network adapter(s) and protocols installed on that computer.
3: When the window opens, click the Identification tab. You will see three boxes (as shown above).
4: In the first box, enter the name you wish to give the computer. You can name it anything, but each computer in your home must have a its own unique name.
5: In the second box, enter the name you plan to use for the workgroup -- make sure all of the computers have the same workgroup name. You may want to write it down to make sure that you enter the exact same workgroup name on each computer in your network.
